Devlog #3 / Week 3 ~ Big Oof
Date: 13.05.2020 - 20.05.2020
Intro ~ It's not going that well
Time is flying by and I only have 3 weeks left to get a playable game ready for this uni assignment; On top of this we're making another game that's a little more important than this one; that's where most of my time went this week!
I did a bit of coding this week where I implemented a character deck system where the character that you have in your deck will never show up as a duplicate in the game world.
Except for that, I just did some combat tweaking where I can choose how the certain ingredient function more easily; I can choose what effects it does on an enemy by just typing it into an array of strings. Not sure if this is the best way to do this but it works for now.
We have weekly follow up meeting as a class where we talk about our progress and any questions we might have. I expressed my concerns about the game not being what I truly want and how I'm still far away from getting something playable ready; which needs to happen asap so I can do some play testing. My lecturer suggested that at the moment the game feels like it's in 2 parts the cooking and the combat, so what if the game was mainly about cooking and then the combat just automatically plays out depending what you cooked. This would then take a lot of pressure of me to get the whole turn based grid combat system working and I can focus more on the cooking. We also did a poll with the whole class to see what mechanics they liked more about my game; the cooking or the combat. and well; cooking won.
So stay tuned for a re-scoped, re-designed game!
