Intro ~ I'm making a cooking game now
Never did I think this train game would become a cooking game; but here we are!
It all happened when I was making mushroom risotto and I had to stir it for 20 minutes; so I had a lot of downtime to do some thinking and the first thing on my mind was this game. So inspired by cooking mechanics in Zelda BOTW, Don't starve and Pokemon Sword and Shield I wrote down a big brainstorm on cooking combat mechanics.
From here I made a flowchart outlining what a potential game loop could look like.
Prototype
With this game concept I created a new Unity project and started building my prototype.
At the end of this week the mechanics I have completed are:
- Grid based movement
- A selection mode where the game recognizes which items you have selected and then displays the information of this character/ item
- An inventory for the ingredients
- Ingredients can be fed to your characters and depending on what you feed them it will do something
Note: At the time I'm writing this I've made a lot of changes to the game design so stay tuned :)
